Arsenal relegate Eduardo to desk job
I felt a little feverish while trying to fall asleep last night, and now I know why!
The new ‘third-kit’ has been officially released, confirming the rumours we saw a while back over the pin-stripe white shirts.
I must say, I’m feeling all confused in a very yuppie sense.
Have Eduardo’s injuries been so grave to his career that the club have now offered him a desk-job instead? This picture really adds new meaning to the term ‘white collar’.
I’m going to be honest – I like the kit from a design sense. Aesthetically it all makes sense and has something of a unique flavour to it.
The love-in stops there, though, with the overriding feeling we look far, far too much like Tottenham Hotspur.
That, or all our players suddenly signed up to work in the accounts department of Arsenal PLC Holdings.
During the 07/08 season when we sported our other foray into white kits, certain matches of the season helped me warm up to our players in the sinful colours.
Liverpool at Anfield in the league and AC Milan at the San Siro were great nights, both featuring Cesc Fabregas as the scorer of a great goal.
I think, however, it is the players I love as representatives of Arsenal that is clouding my judgement, here.
I would argue that Arsenal have the most famous, traditional, away colours of any club out there.
The Yellow and Blue of Arsenal Away has been marked in history by FA Cup wins (especially the 1979 ‘five minute final’), winning the league at Old Trafford as well as the Invincibles season of 03/04.
Our traditional away colours are unique and iconic, yet Nike seem obsessed with pouring loo-water all over that.
Your thoughts on Eduardo’s desk job in the comments section.

It doesn't look anything like an Arsenal shirt now does it, I just wish Nike would stop all this pissing about with our history. The away kit is yellow shirts and blue shorts and nothing else sits right with me, always has been, always should be. If we must have a white shirt or a blue shirt it should be for a rarely used third kit. And at nearly £50 a pop we have two new shirts a season to buy. Our yellow kit from this season has been discarded after one season. Still I'm glad that all the money raised from shirt sales is being used to reinforce the squad, or reduce season ticket prices(like fuck it is), at this rate we will end up as commercialised as manUSA but without the trophies!!
Look like tottenham because the shirt is white? So we also look like liverpool and united because the home t-shirt is red
no sense at all, blog posts more and more shit by the day. Delete this blog and save your time.
Yet you keep coming back…
What you talkin about good morning?
Yet you keep coming back…
Arsenal are distinctly red and white. Not plain red, like afformentioned clubs. Talk some sense.
he just got owned
The new third shirt. I make a habit of never swearing in commnets I make but I`m going to break my rule. The new shirt looks somewhere between pyjamas and a prison uniform….shit…….stick with bold strong colours. Herbert Chapman would turn in his grave.
Swearing excused, Mr Staniforth. I "didnt mind" the white kit in 07/08 with the redcurrant pants so much – only barely liked it, mind you – but the white and blue is just carbon copy of Sp*rs.
So much for my favourite taunt of that club trying to be exactly like us. This is too much.
Every season all the fans go "aw we don't like the new shirt this year"… and write similar things in blog comments. Yet we still all go and buy the shirts and life carries on as normal until next year when they change it again. So i wouldn't get too stressed about it… As for Spurs, it's them who look too much like us. Someone needs to get onto their marketing dept to tell them to change their home shirt.
Last year Nike did just fine. The away kits were awesome and the home kits weren't as blasphomous as everone seemed to think (although the more traditional all white sleeve is more preferable). Not sure what to think this year. The all blue looks like an american national team jersey and the third one looks very similiar to the 07/08 kits. But in football's case the clothes don't really make the man.
The new kits look bloody awesome, your talking up a load of rubbish. Too many superstitious know it alls round here. Don’t you think you’d wear these kits more regularly throughout the year? I would. And the missus is a big fan because it’s not bright yellow. Not that you’d care but it lets me off the hook to go buying a new Arsenal shirt!
There's no superstition at all. It's tradition, it's what makes our club, it's not about what 'looks cool'. Even so, Nike are quite capable of keeping the same colours of our club and make them look fashionable, regardless. I never said we wont win the league because of the colours of our kit – that would be superstitious.
Nike have been decidedly 'hit and miss' recently with their offerings. The away kit last year has to go down as one of the greatest of all time. Never really had a problem with any of the home kits, but the white and redcurrent monstrosity of a couple of years back, and now this travesty. White kits and arsenal just dont go good together. I cant warm to them, i cant feel them, and i certainly wont buy them.
If they need a third, they should just turn their shirts inside out, or play as skins.
clutching at straws springs to mind. once the football kicks off, ALL the fans love the strips, make no mistake, one of my favourite kits is the 07-08 Cesc white strip with the red currant trim. lock it in bro, who gives a fly farrugia about the spuds, what colour strip do they wear anyway, i couldnt even begin to wonder….
as EvolnOz says, once we see the players winning in these strips we wont care about the colours. Personally i like the home kit with the arm stripe, and the new blue away looks smart. The new 3rd I just wish we ha the redcurrent shorts – but thats if a third is ever needed, did we even have one last year??
Anyone got Photoshop handy? I'd be interested to see what a plain blue shirt with yellow pinstripes would have looked like, then the Nike guys would have had their design and the Gooners would have kept traditional colours = everyone happy!
Arsenal Home = Red and White
Arsenal Away = Yellow and Blue
This is the way it has always been and should always be.
Arsenal third does not and should not exist. How can we possibly clash when our two kits are so different. Even if another team has two kits the same colours, we'll wear red and they can wear yellow or reversed. Its pointless and just another way for Nike to make money in a market they already dominate.
The kit's not bad looking and who cares if it is midly similar to Tottenham's colours, but it has no relevence to the club and is not needed.
UEFA rules state that any club in either the Champions League or Europa League has to have three registered kits, each with different 'elements' from the others.
Therefore we have red and white shirt, white shorts and white socks for home kit, blue, blue and blue for away, and white, grey and grey for a third kit.
Last season's third was the previous season's away kit (i.e. white, redcurrant, and redcurrant and white) on the off chance that we played a team who play in red and yellow (Galatasary??). This year there are some obvious red and blue clashes should we be lucky enough to play, say Barcelona.
My only gripe with this constant kit changing is that we SHOULD use the previous season's away kit as a third kit, yet in the last few years we have produced 2 one-off third kits (the blue and redcurrant hoops, and now the white).
This third kit is beyond disappointing. I just cannot believe that the Board of Directors, Arsene and the players would have ever sanctioned such a poor choice for a third kit. You're right JACK S Chapman would be furious!!!
And those of you who like it are obviously recent bandwagon gooners and don't have much sense of history for this football club. Can you imagine AC Milan having a blue and black striped away shirt? Or Rangers having a green and white striped number? It just wouldn't happen because someone somewhere with some sense of pride and dignity would have said "No!"
I have no issues with the club releasing new shirts every year as it raises much needed revenue but this is just a step too far. It's an incredibly important decision that has been made in a Nike executive's office in Beaverton Oregon or Hilversum Holland, without any due diligence or acknowledgement of the history of the club.
If Nike had taken a poll at the last home game and asked 100 gooners what they thought I doublt more than 10% would have said they liked it. I would have thought it was a practical joke from Soccer Am or something.
And if you're all excited that you can wear it around town and not look like a football fan, then buy a nice Arsenal polo shirt instead.
As for people saying "oh you'll love it if we win in it!" Of couse Arsenal fans enjoy any victory but it won't suddenyl make me think "Oh yeah, it looks nothing like the scum from up the road at all, what was I thinking?"
Arsenal FC has a proud tradition and this kit is disrespectful to that tradition.
Amen.
yellow & blue, that's it! 3rd kit? who needs it?
blah blah this is how it should b this is how arsenal have always been… Deal with it now the home kit is red n away blue next year if they make it green r u gonna stop supporting them?! Doesnt matter what colour they wear as long as they win! Hav u seen manures kit?! Can’t b worse than that!
