Fabregas gave Spurs everything they ever deserved

I cannot stop watching replays of Cesc’s goal against Spurs. It’s a bit of the dribble, it’s a bit of the way Spurs’ brains dribbled through their noses, it’s a bit of that fantastic shirt-pulling, knee-sliding, fan-smacking celebration he did at the end of it.

Either way, it was a thing of beauty and they’ll be hard-pressed to beat that for goal of the season this term.

And as derbies go, it was the perfect response from Arsenal. We all know about that horrible 4-4 last season. Spurs fans know it hurt us. They were singing that much when they had the chance (”4-2 and you f—ed it up…”).

Then they brought up that old paedophile chant again. That got me. That really got me, given the publicity that even Man United have put out against that chant, they still go on with it.

The glorious bit about their timing in letting loose with this chant, however, was that it was little more than 5 minutes before van Persie’s opener.

Their club favourite, Ledley King, was an absolute embarressment to the club and given his injury problems, he should be sacked as a player and forgotten about. Harsh, sure, but it pales in comparison to the Wenger chants. So really, cut your losses, Spurs. Give up on your ‘legendary captain’, and accept he was absolutely taken to the cleaners on the Derby.

The lesson in revenge, however, was still to take place.

Last season, leading 4-2 with nothing more than 3 minutes to spare, somehow, by Satan’s own divination, we contrived to literally ‘Cock’ it up. 4-3 was clumsy, 4-4 was a bee-sting in the balls.

So you can imagine when Robin van Persie stretches his leg past King to put it under the terrible Gomes’ reach, that was painful for Spurs.

The “Who are ya?” chants were even more grating.

And the 11-seconds leading up to the very next goal must have been sheer hell.

THAT’S a response of derby standards, a whole season later. That’s DOUBLE what we must have felt in the draw last season.

And it’s everything Spurs fans deserved, after the way they talked so big before the match, the way they think they are our equals, the way they sing about Wenger, the way they resort to xenophobic hogwash with the ‘we have more English players than you’.

Yes, you do Spurs. After losing 3-0, are you still proud of that?

After 16 years of being an Arsenal fan (I was a johnny-come-lately after the Cup Double of 93!), it’s already quickly becoming one of my favourite moments of all time as a Gooner. Some Gooners out there have been fans for much, much longer. I’m sure they would have similar sentiments.

So sod off, Spurs. You can whinge all you like about how you were equal to us and all that rot.

But one thing still stands that you will never have. “We’ve got Cesc Fabregas”.
