@DRP - Let me you tell one thing

Our wage structure at Arsenal is structured differently. The wage bill at Arsenal includes the players AND also the staffs, which includes the trainers and coaches. Hence naturally we would have a big wage bill.

At other clubs - Liverpool included, the wage bill ONLY includes the palyers' salary.

The article is hillarious. You go on about Arsenal not spending big money on marquee players then say you should sign Pepe Reina. He is one of the top keepers in world football, and would cost way more than Wenger or Arsenal would be willing or could even afford to spend on one player.

And the award for the most ignorant and unconstructive comment goes to....Jammathon!

I don't understand what peoples problem is with looking at the finances of LFC as they should be looked at: from a subjective economic perspective.

Yeah sure, fans make mention of the net spend but that's because it needs to be mentioned, especially in the situation Benitez has been in - having to sell to buy.

Why do we even have to choose between Kroenke or Usmanov? I thought the purpose of building the stadium was so that we would be financially independent. And that we would spend on players with money from recurring income. What value will Stan add to Arsenal FC? What does Stan get out of this? He can own some shares, but I am not for one individual owning the whole club.
PS. on hindsight, I strongly believe Man U did not really need the Glazers for their success.

Shay Given? Are you barking mad?! Given WAS a good keeper before he picked up the career threatening back injury which has held him back ever since.

Anyway, you're living in cloud cuckoo land, Reina's a loyal red who knows he's at the best, most successful club in the country. Everyone has storms to weather, and as I'm sure all you loyal Gooners know, we'll come out the other end smiling.

I've always had respect for Arsenal and what Wenger's done but to say that we've spent massively is a nonsense. Our net spend is less than £20 million a season which, in the face of the other bigger hitters in the Prem, is a paltry amount.

All the slating Benitez has been given based upon money spent is totally misplaced, as is all this rubbish in the papers calling for him to quit.

Anyway, good luck with your season Gooners.

haha thanks for that joke this morning... Really cheered me up...

If you compare Rafa's 1st 5 years to Wengers last 5 years, would you move? Remembering that Wenger's last 5 years are based on a team that HE HAS BEEN BUILDING for, is it 15 years, as opposed to Rafa having to rebuild the whole team left him by Houllier and still have a better 5 year record htan you guys? ;)

Arsenal fans: you do realise that the cost of a transfer includes wages as well as fees?

Check out Deloitte's comparisons of salary spending during Rafa's tenure. Our "20-odd million" a season (it is actually no where near that) on players is more than compensated for by Arsenal's much higher wage bill (ie. 10-20m a season higher)...

The bottom line is that Rafa has been more successful than Wenger during his seasons in england, and has spent less (wages + fees, remember!).
