BIO: Joined Arsenal on a swap deal that involved Ashley Cole heading to Chelsea. Always a solid, highly-rated defender who only had to overcome his history with Chelsea to be welcomed by the Gooners faithful. Was given the surprise captaincy by Wenger in 2007/08 and seemed the perfect choice until Eduardo’s injury at Birmingham. His more emotional side came to the fore ever since and was eventually stripped of the captaincy after a public dressing-down of his players. Despite this, he has become an even more accomplished defender without the captaincy weighing him down and has finally been fully welcomed into the Arsenal fold by fans.
